Generate a code

The template is the detection key: it decides what is put in front of your content, and afterwards the scanner knows what to do – open a page, dial a number, create a contact, save a Wi-Fi network. Without a template the code is only text.

Error correction is the reserve share of the code: extra modules carry the information a scanner reconstructs when part is damaged, dirty, covered or photographed at an angle. The content stays the same – only the code gets bigger and denser.
L approx. 7 % reserve – smallest code, ideal on a screen.
M approx. 15 % reserve – standard, for most sheets of paper.
Q approx. 25 % reserve – for printing, notices and stickers.
H approx. 30 % reserve – the most robust code, the largest.

Appearance: what is produced is a classic QR code – black modules on a white ground, with a white border, no image, logo or colour in the middle. A sign in the middle covers exactly the modules a scanner needs to decode, and makes the code unreliable – on a screen as well as in print. If you want a logo in the middle: choose level Q or H, download the PNG and place the sign small and opaque in the middle with an image editor (white border around the sign).
